Best Card Sleeves for Grading One Piece TCG
Most collectors sleeve their cards to protect them. But the wrong sleeve (too tight, statically charged, or made from low-quality plastic) can introduce micro-scratches that cost you a PSA 10. Choosing the right sleeve matters more than most people realise.
Here's what actually works.
The Two Types of Sleeve You Need
For grading preparation, you need two different sleeve types at different stages:
1. Perfect Fit inner sleeves: go directly around the card, inside the Card Saver or toploader. Ultra-thin, zero excess movement, no static.
2. Standard outer sleeves: used for storage and play before you're ready to submit. These protect the card from environmental exposure.
Perfect Fit Inner Sleeves: The Only One That Matters for Submission
For PSA submissions, the inner sleeve is the critical choice. The card will be in this sleeve inside the Card Saver for days or weeks in transit. It needs to be:
- Exactly the right size: too loose and the card moves inside, creating friction. Too tight and inserting/removing it can stress the corners.
- Non-static: static charge attracts dust particles that can scratch the surface
- Crystal clear: any haze in the plastic can look like card surface haze
KMC Perfect Fit: the community standard for grading submissions. Available in packs of 100. These fit One Piece standard cards perfectly, have minimal static, and are made from high-clarity plastic. The vast majority of successful PSA submissions use KMC Perfect Fits.
Dragon Shield Perfect Fit: a solid alternative to KMC. Available here. Slightly different plastic texture. Some collectors prefer them for foil cards, claiming lower friction on shiny surfaces.
Outer Sleeves: For Storage Before Submission
Before a card reaches the submission stage, it needs protection from handling, dust, and humidity.
Dragon Shield Matte: a popular choice for raw card storage. The matte texture reduces glare and fingerprint visibility. Good durability and available in many colours. One Piece cards fit comfortably.
KMC Hyper Mat: ultra-clear with a matte back. Strong clarity for displaying cards while protecting them.
Ultra Pro Standard Sleeves: the budget option. Fine for bulk storage of lower-value cards. Not recommended for cards you're planning to grade: the plastic quality is lower and static can be an issue.
What to Avoid
Penny sleeves for anything valuable: the thin plastic and poor clarity of basic penny sleeves make them a liability for grading candidates. Fingerprints, dust, and friction are all risks.
Ultra-tight sleeves on foil cards: SEC and parallel cards with foil finishes can pick up micro-scratches from sleeve friction if the fit is too snug. KMC Perfect Fits are designed to avoid this.
Mixing sleeve brands in the same submission: not a disaster, but consistency helps. Use KMC Perfect Fits throughout a submission.
The Correct Sleeving Process
- Put on white cotton gloves
- Handle the card by edges only
- Slide the card face-down into the Perfect Fit sleeve. The face contacts the smoother interior side.
- Slide the sleeved card into the Card Saver. No force required; it should move smoothly.
Never sleeve a card face-up into a Perfect Fit. The open end is at the top; the face should be protected against the closed bottom of the sleeve.

Bottom Line
For PSA submissions, KMC Perfect Fits are the default choice. They're cheap, widely available, and trusted by the grading community. Buy a 100-pack and use them for every card you're considering submitting. The cost per card is negligible compared to the grading fee.
